Alexander D. Iglesias is an American artist born in 2001. Originally from Florida, they moved around the country multiple times before their family settled in Chattanooga, Tennessee when Alexander was 14 years old.
Alexander has focused their work on exploring the nature of belonging. Through their work, Alexander dives into why we connect with the people around us, the communities that bring us together, and touches on the longing for connection that we all feel. Combining image and text, Alexander weaves together narrative and feeling to develop intimate vignettes about life in the modern world.
Initially, their photographic journey started by photographing their friends and immediate surroundings in Tennessee and Georgia. This approach culminated in their debut project I Love It Here, I Hate It Here, an exploration, celebration, and critique of growing up in the American south from a queer perspective.
Their most recent project, Driftwood, focuses on the experience of young adulthood — still beautifully unanchored, but sometimes directionless. Maintaining a diaristic approach, Alexander photographs young people around the world and combines written stories about his subjects to understand their present experience and their hopes and fears of the future.
Alexander has been recognized as a noteworthy emerging artist, including being accepted into the Filter Photo Context 2025 group exhibition, the Lensculture Emerging Talent Awards 2024, being named a winner of the Urbanautica Institute Awards 2024, accepted into and completing both Atelier Smedsby and Chico Review, and listed in the 39th edition of the American Photography Archive. Alexander’s work has been exhibited domestically and internationally, including in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Texas, Rhode Island, London and Paris. Most recently, they had their first solo gallery exhibition at Galerie Leneuf Sinibaldi (Paris) in 2026.
After graduating with their BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2024, they moved to Oakland, California where they now reside.
